Setting Goals for 2025?

As 2024 winds down, many business owners and leaders—like you—are deep into strategic planning, setting goals, or reflecting on the year’s wins and lessons. No matter how you frame it, goal setting is essentially the same at its core, whether you call it a “business strategy” or your “annual intention.”

This past year I embarked on a few endeavors that reminded me of important truths about setting and achieving goals:

1️⃣ Consistency Beats Perfection

It’s easy to fall into the trap of all-or-nothing thinking. “If I can’t do it perfectly, why bother?” But that mindset just leads back to old patterns, and nothing changes.

What I’ve seen time and time again—with my clients and in my own life—is that progress happens when you show up consistently, even if it’s not perfect. Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Consistency looks like:

  • Leaning into the important leadership conversations, even when it’s uncomfortable.

  • Showing up to that networking event, even if you can only stay for 30 minutes.

  • Delegating one more task so you can focus on higher-level work.

Each step forward counts. Progress over perfection.

2️⃣ Connect to an Emotionally Compelling Reason

Goals without a strong emotional connection are easy to abandon. This year, I hit what I consider the halfway point of my life 🎂, and it shifted my perspective. I realized that if I don’t take care of my body and stay physically strong, I’m allowing muscle loss and a decline in bone density to take over.

That thought didn’t sit well with me.

So, I got serious about prioritizing my health—not because it was another task on my to-do list, but because it deeply mattered to me. And that emotional connection kept me motivated through busy seasons, travel, and even days when I didn’t feel like showing up.

When your goals are tied to something meaningful, you’re far more likely to stay committed.

3️⃣ Track Your Progress— The Way That Works For YOU

Tracking progress doesn’t have to be fancy or high-tech to work. This year, I used the simplest tracking tool for my health: a bubble chart.

Every time I moved my body, I filled in a bubble letter.

By the time I finished all 100 bubbles, I realized I had completed my goal a month and a half earlier than planned.

Why? Because a tracked number grows. Even a basic tracking system can create momentum. Seeing those small wins adds up, and motivates you to keep going.

As you plan for 2025, I invite you to reflect on these three reminders:

  • Stay consistent, even if it’s messy.

  • Anchor your goals to something that genuinely matters to you.

  • Track your progress, no matter how simple the system.
